The selection of an ECM or DMS product is always a long-term infrastructure decision as the migration of data and documents is, although sooner or later necessary, never trivial.

In addition, the product decision includes inevitably the selection of a service provider and so results automatically in a decision for long-term partnership. Often, the product is good, but the provider has limited capabilities.

A number of non functional criteria are therefore part of the selection process.

Different clients have different functional requirements and different organizational and technical frameworks. Therefore, the best ECM/DMC in general does not exist, rather the best one for an individual company.
